It's certainly warmed up this month, spring has got off to a warm start, with temperature reaching 20 degrees in some parts of the UK!

Without knowing how long it will last, it’s the perfect opportunity to get those jobs done you’ve been putting off all winter.

Planting and Sowing:

  • Sow hardy annuals like wildflowers, marigolds and nigella directly into borders.

  • Plant summer-flowering bulbs such as lilies and gladioli.

  • Start sowing vegetables like carrots, peas, beetroot, and spinach.

  • Pot up dahlia tubers under cover to prepare them for planting out in May.

Pruning and Dividing:

  • Prune climbing roses and hydrangeas to encourage healthy growth.

  • Divide and replant perennials like echinaceas and Michaelmas daisies.

Lawn Care:

  • Reseed any bare patches in your lawn and aerate the soil.

Wildlife-Friendly Gardening:

  • Put out food and water for hedgehogs waking from hibernation.

  • Plant wildflowers to attract pollinators.

General Maintenance:

  • Deadhead spring bulbs like tulips and narcissi.

  • Keep an eye out for slugs and caterpillars, and use pet-friendly deterrents.

  • Prepare beds for planting by mixing in compost and ensuring good drainage.
