July in the UK garden is all about enjoying the fruits of your spring labour. The roses are blooming, bees are buzzing, and if you listen closely—you can almost hear your sun lounger calling. But just before you settle in with that glass of wine on the decking, let’s tick off a few light summer tasks to keep your garden looking tip-top.

✂️ What to Trim

Wisteria: Snip back those whippy side shoots to about 6 inches to keep the plant tidy and encourage flowering.

Lavender: Trim just the faded flower heads (not the woody stems) to tidy up and prep for a compact regrowth.

Perennials: Deadhead things like geraniums and delphiniums to coax out a second flush.

Box and hedges: A quick trim now will keep them looking crisp through summer soirées.

🌱 Lawn Love

Mow lightly: Raise your mower blades—longer grass copes better with dry spells and looks lusher.

Water wisely: Water early in the morning or late evening for best absorption. Deep but infrequent watering encourages strong roots.

Feed if needed: A gentle summer lawn feed helps maintain that green carpet feel.

🍷 Make the Most of Your Garden

July isn’t just for garden chores—it’s prime time to relax and revel. Host barbecues, read on the bench under your climbing rose, or just sit back and soak up your green haven. Gardens are for living, not just labouring.

🌸 Shortcut to a Dreamy Garden

If you're short on time (or just want to shortcut the faff), our Cottage Garden Collections do all the thinking for you. We’ve combined seasonally compatible plants in curated bundles, so your garden not only blooms beautifully—it works effortlessly.

You choose the size, and we’ll handle the combinations. Even the most beginner gardener can create a border that feels like it grew itself.

Just pop them in, pour a glass of something cold, and admire the view. 🥂
